When the UK lotto was introduced in November 1994, there were two main beneficiaries. The lucky lotto jackpot winners, of course, won a large chunk of the money made from weekly lotto ticket sales. But what about the rest of the lotto money? Well, another large chunk of the money made from weekly lotto sales went to good causes all across the country, helping to raise much needed finds and buy essential equipment.
To date, lotto sales have helped to raise over fifteen billion pounds to assist good causes. From helping local communities to providing financial assistance to charities and organizations across the country, the lotto has certainly made a remarkable difference to the lives of many people in the UK.
Around 28p out of every one pound spent on lotto sales goes towards these good causes. The six main categories covered are: arts, sports, charities, heritage, millennium projects and education, and health and environment. There is a range of special council set up to assess application for lotto funding and subsequently grant the funding if the assessment is a positive one. These are: The Community Fund, The Millennium Commission, The Sports Councils, The Heritage Lottery Fund, The Arts Councils, and The New Opportunities Fund. So, as you can see, 28% of money made from lotto sales goes towards helping a wide variety of valuable causes.
With the UK lotto, everyone wins. Lotto players can look forward to a chance of winning anything between ten pounds and several million pounds. And many communities, organizations and charities across the country can benefit from a lotto grant that could change the lives of many people for the better. So you can be sure that your weekly lotto ticket may benefit you and will definitely benefit others. |
